Professional Development and Training Committee
The Professional Development and Training Committee provides professional development opportunities for entry level, mid level and upper level professionals in the association on topics of business/financial administration, residence life, food service, facilities management, and central administration.

Purpose:
The purpose of the Professional Development and Training committee is to design, implement and review a comprehensive professional development curriculum through annual conference programs and other sponsored venues.
Responsibilities:

To maintain the Professional Development Curriculum which reflects association mission, values, and goals.

To provide training opportunities for all level professionals in the major functional areas of college and university housing: residence life, business/financial management, facility management, food management, and central administration. Educate and offer resources in areas of recruitment and retention of the housing profession.

To foster personal and professional development to professionals of all levels.

Solicit and sponsor one consultant in residence.

Solicit and sponsor one keynote speaker.

Host annual Case Study competition for entry and intermediate level professionals.

Solicit, provide, and sponsor three program tracks for entry, mid and upper level professionals at the annual conference.

Communicate information to the membership through regular submissions to the newsletter, website, etc.

Plan and conduct an annual training workshop that offers a focused training opportunity on current college and university housing topics.
Goals:
-
Strive to sponsor 35-40 of programs in a wide variety of topics to cover curriculum and all levels (entry, mid, upper).

Encourage 1st time presenters in the recruitment of programs.

Focus on recruitment of Mid and Upper level presenters.

Shoulder tap a diverse range of people to present programs and work collaboratively with the Programming Committee.

Solicit a diverse keynote and consultant in areas of gender, race, sexual orientation, etc.

Contract a consultant (by March 1st) focused on mid-level needs.

Contract a keynote (by March 1st) who is an engaging speaker to speak within the designated 25–30 minute timeframe.

Establish AV and special needs from keynote and consultant by June 1st.

Sponsor and provide a book review and article for each newsletter.

Increase intermediate case study participation.

Expand case study presentations from 5 to 6 minutes (20% increase).

Increase involvement in case study, establishing a wait list to increase the honor of being involved in case study.

Encourage entry level individuals from our institutions to participate in case study.

Implement the first webinar and be fiscally responsible in its planning.

Establish a template for future webinars.

Work to be inclusive in all aspects of our committee work (case study, programming, consultant, keynote, communication and webinar).

Bridge the gap between upper and entry level through programs and newsletter submissions.
