Top 10 things for a first time delegate to know before attending

UMR-ACUHO

1.

Attend UMR 101 and the social- you will get to meet other first time attendees, meet people involved on committees, and hear more about UMR.

2.

Bring a wide variety of clothing- banquets and presentations are often business casual attire, while evening activities are more casual.  Show school pride by wearing gear that represents your current institution on the final day of the conference.

3.

Bring a professional bag to gather resources, a writing utensil to take notes, and business cards to use to network.

4.

Volunteer to assist as a program moderator or for another task.  This will be a way to meet others and to be involved at the conference.

5.

Visit the vendor area and learn more about the programs and services they offer. Our vendors are a great resource and provide support for UMR-ACUHO and it's member schools.

6.

Ask questions- you can always approach those members on a committee to get more information, as well as asking other delegates about their experience at UMR.

7.

Scan the program book to determine which sessions you will attend- try to attend programs that are different than other members of your delegation.

8.

Branch Out- sit with a different group of people at each meal and introduce yourself to those sitting near you during a program session.

Don’t wait for people to come and meet you- get out and interact with people during the meals and sessions.

9.

Get involved- participate in the case study competition to expand your professional experience and work with someone from a different school.

10.

Attend a round table session with a topic of interest for you.  You will be able to make connections with those who share some of the same concerns and experience.
