Responsibilities for Area Coordinator/Coordinator for Student Activities are:
Area Coordinator
1. Participate in the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of paraprofessional and student employees.

5. Work with Diversity at Morningside (DAM) to implement programs, events, etc., and serve as co-advisor as needed.
6. Be an advocate for multicultural issues and topics impacting students and the campus community.
Counseling/Advising
1. Serve as a resource for R.A. and campus programming.
2. Make referrals, which will provide aid to students in obtaining assistance from other offices.
3. Interact with students as a resource person and advisor.
4. Serve as advisor to M.A.C., Diversity at Morningside, and the Student Homecoming Directors.
5. Serve as advisor to the Greek Council.
6. Perform miscellaneous job-related counseling/advising duties as assigned.
Student Post Office
1. Participate in the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of Student Post Office staff.
2. Direct weekly staff meetings with Student Post Office Managers.
3. Assign student post office boxes
4. Responsible for maintenance of student post office boxes

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required. Previous residence life/student leadership experience preferred. Candidates must be accepted and enrolled in a graduate program at SCSU carrying 8-12* credits per semester prior to employment. Compensation

GAs may apply for up to $250 in professional development funds annually. Additional employment opportunities may be available during summer. Approximate start date of July 26, 2010.

Residence Hall Director
The Residence Hall Director is a 12-month, full-time residential life staff member responsible for the successful provision of programs and services in a coed resident community of approximately 450-900 undergraduate students in two - five buildings. S/he plans, organizes, and directs the staffing, administrative, operations, community development, student development, and discipline functions in his/her community. S/he is also responsible for executing assigned projects for the entire residential life program. The Residence Hall Director supervises a Head Resident Assistant, 11-22 resident assistants, a full-time receptionist and all student employees assigned to the community. In addition, the Residence Hall Director works in close cooperation with physical facilities, housekeeping, food service, and other student affairs staff. S/he receives direct supervision from the Assistant Director of Residential Life.
Residence Hall Responsibilities
Staffing
q Supervises, trains, and evaluates the performance of the Head Resident and Resident Assistant staff.
q Selects, trains, supervises, evaluates, and oversees payroll for all student employees.
q Participates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of department selection processes including the processes to select Resident Assistant staff.

q Coordinates the delivery of programs and services to summer school and conference groups.
Operations
q Collects input from relevant sources and participates in the review of building operations in the areas of: security, environmental support services, food service and physical facilities.
q Participates in the planning of building repairs, renovations, and furnishing replacement.
q Conducts regular environment inspections and meets regularly with physical environment support personnel.

The Complex Coordinator (CC) is a member of the Residence Life Staff in the Division of Student Affairs. The CC is responsible for the day-to-day operations and facilitation of the Residence Life program in Caecilian & Whitby Halls and Alberta & Georgia Apartments. This is a live-on, year-round position reporting to the Director of Residence Life.
Responsibilities:
· Select, train, evaluate and supervise 13 Resident Advisors.
· Assist in the administration of the Residence Life Program.
· Assist in the implementation of the Residence Life Resident Advisors winter and on-going training.
· Coordinate the Family Housing program in Alberta Apartments.

Qualifications:
The Complex Coordinator position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with significant prior experience in Residence Life but a Master’s Degree is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate experience in staff supervision and development, adjudicating student conduct hearings, emergency response and crisis intervention, upper-class student programming and relations, advising student groups, and budget planning and monitoring. Additional qualities necessary include strong communications skills, strong organizational and administrative skills, problem solving and decision-making, and conflict resolution skills. Candidates should also possess extensive listening skills and be comfortable serving as a resource and advisor for students. This position requires someone who can work effectively with college students as volunteers and employees, and be able to work effectively as part of the professional staff team as well. Finally, this position requires someone who can commit many weekend and evening hours in addition to the normal work schedule.
